This garden railing was made for Kitty—community builder, founder of Bainbridge Island’s “Bike for Pie,” and my second mom.

Kitty believed everyone was worthy of love, and that nature didn’t need fixing—only space to grow. As the rails became part of her daily life, they were shaped to disappear into the garden, masking their necessity and feeling more like branches than barriers, so the plants she had tended since the 1970s could remain the focus.
